For 2013, Lexus' mid-level luxury ES sedan has gotten a complete redo. Whereas the previous ES came based upon the Toyota Camry, the sixth generation model's underpinnings are borrowed from the larger Avalon sedan. This means a longer wheelbase and corresponding increase in rear legroom. The ES features an all-new look that is both athletic and restrained, with a deep and distinguished front grille and attractive curves at the rear. The ES 350 comes powered by the proven 268-hp, 3.5L V6, while an all-new ES 300h Hybrid--the first such car in the ES range--derives its 200 hp from a 2.5L Atkinson Cycle four-cylinder with assist from an electric motor. The combination is good for an EPA-estimated combined 40 mpg. Both models come loaded with standard amenities, technology, and safety features. The base ES 350 is priced at $36,995.
